“For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.” Galatians 6:3 (NKJV)
Identity crisis is the biggest pandemic of our generation. If you do not know who you are, you have not yet begun to live. The function and purpose of anything are embedded in its identity. God created us with an identity; we do not choose it ourselves. You discover your identity from the One who made you. The worst kind of deception is self-deception.
A person who has discovered their identity is one who knows who they are in God. How does God see you? Who does He expect you to be? If only you could see yourself the way God sees you, you would love the life He wants you to live.
From the beginning, God made man the ruler of the earth and placed everything under his control. He allowed Adam to give the animals their names and identities, and it has remained so until now. Adam and his wife were deceived by the devil because they suffered from an identity crisis. A critical look at how the devil tempted Eve reveals that she was tested on her knowledge of herself. If they had truly understood that they were made in God’s image, they would not have fallen for the deception that promised to make them like God.
The devil continues to use the same tricks today, testing us on our identity. He can easily deceive you if you do not know who you are in God. The question now is: how can I know who I am to God? In His wisdom, God did not want the enemy to deceive His people any longer, so He has revealed our identity through His Word. He calls us by many names to show how He sees us—identities such as ambassadors, the light of the world, a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, His righteousness, His battle axe, His bride, and many more.
Know who you are in Christ Jesus and stand firm against all the deceptive tricks of the evil one.
