Fulfillment of the Law and Prophets

1–2 minutes

Salvation 2025 | Day 3

“Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote — Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
‭‭John‬ ‭1‬:‭45‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The entirety of the law and the prophets was a compass that pointed towards a futuristic redemptive plan of God for mankind. The law and the prophets were a foreshadowing of Jesus, His life, and His mission on earth. Jesus Himself spoke about the laws and prophets as writings about Him; You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. (John 5:39).

The main purpose of the laws and the prophets was to make the people right before God — an opportunity to approach Him. This is exactly what Jesus came to do, hence fulfilling in Himself the whole Scripture. When men do not understand Jesus, He opens their eyes to understand the Scriptures because by so doing, they will understand Him. Jesus is the eternal Word of God; that which was written in the law and the prophets was a glimpse of Him. By knowing Jesus, we fully comprehend the scriptures. Jesus is not just the ABC of the Scripture; He is the A-Z of it all. Through Him, we fathom the basis for the ceremonies, sacrifices, statutes, and prophecies.

By fulfilling in Himself the law and prophets, Jesus paved the way for us who believe in Him to also walk down the road of righteousness with Him. He dwells in us with this fullness, enabling us to overcome our weaknesses in the law. Our search through the scriptures is not necessarily to memorize a written code but to know a person, Jesus Christ. Before, during, and after you read any part of the written scripture, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal Jesus to you through what you have read. Just as it is written, “…the Holy Spirit guides us into all truth…” (John 16:13). Jesus is the Truth!
