“Parresia” — Boldness at the Throne

1–2 minutes

Salvation 2025 | Day 23

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:16 KJV

This is my favorite part of the finished works: Before the death and resurrection of Jesus, no one could draw near the throne of God without facing instant death. The holiness of God and the sinfulness of man could not coexist. But glory be to Jesus! Through His finished work, we now have unrestricted access to the throne of grace. THE VEIL IS TORN!!

And instead of us dying in His presence, anything that is not of Him in us dies. Glory!

What makes this even more beautiful is that we don’t just come near quietly or timidly. The scripture says, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace,” and the word boldly is translated from the Greek word “Parresia.” In ancient times, “Parresia” referred to freedom of speech — specifically the ability to speak freely, honestly, and confidently without fear of punishment or rejection. It described someone who expressed their mind openly and courageously.

This is what Christ purchased for us through His finished work. We are invited to approach God in prayer with raw honesty, bold, frank, and transparent. He doesn’t get offended when we express confusion, frustration, doubt, or even wrong thinking. Instead, He welcomes our voice and our presence. PS; Remember the prodigal son!

And though God may lovingly correct us through His Word, He never pushes us away. He’s just glad that we came. The throne of grace is no longer a place of judgment for the believer; it’s a place of safety, mercy, and open-hearted conversation. The invitation to come boldly means we are fully accepted, deeply loved, and always heard.
