From receiving mercy to living mercy

1–2 minutes

||Rhema for the Week||

“The faithful love of the Lord never ends. His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.” Lamentations 3:22–23

Mercy is more than forgiveness; it is compassion and kindness. It is God choosing love when judgment would seem deserved, grace when we feel unqualified for it. Every morning, God gives us another chance, another opportunity to begin again. Because of this, we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in Him.” Our hope is not in circumstances, people, or certainty, but in the unchanging character of God. The Lord is good to those who depend on Him, to those who seek Him, and it is good to wait quietly for His salvation.

But God’s mercy is not renewed daily for us to receive it and stop there. It is renewed so it can flow through us. The truth is that God often works through people to reveal His power. When He chooses to show mercy, many times He does it through human vessels. We are called, as recipients of daily mercy, to live out daily compassion and kindness.

Sometimes God’s mercy looks like patience instead of anger, listening instead of judging, kindness when it is inconvenient, and compassion when we are tired. As humans, we are called to reflect the same mercy we receive, because mercy was never meant to end with us. When we show mercy, we become evidence that God is still at work.

If God’s mercies are renewed every morning, then our compassion should also be renewed every day. Each day invites us to ask: who needs mercy through me today? Who needs kindness instead of correction? Who needs grace instead of silence? Sometimes, the way God answers prayers is by working through us.

So dare to hope, because God is faithful. Dare to hope, because His mercy is new every morning. And dare to live mercifully, knowing that through our compassion and kindness, God reveals His love to the world.
