The Creator as a Creature: What it takes

2–3 minutes

||Rhema for the Week||

“And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.” Luke‬ ‭1‬:‭35‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Making a big thing small is despised by most people because they see it as a downgrade. To such people, reduction is only viewed as a subtraction but that’s not always the case. Making a big thing small sometimes requires so much power than man can comprehend because it is not achieved by subtraction but compression. It takes so much force and power to fit a great thing into a small container without subtracting from it.

This is the lens through which one needs to view the birth of the Jesus. He did not become man by subtracting a fraction of His divinity. He was born man with the fullness of the Godhead (Colossians 2:9). It took the power of the Holy Spirit to obtain this compression of a creator into a creature. Mary did not have a God-like man in her, she had God Himself in her when she was pregnant with Jesus.

It is expedient for us to understand that Jesus becoming man was not diminishing of His power, on the contrary, it was actually a display of His power. His ability to restrain (compress) Himself to be that small shows the great force He has. It is similar to how gas is compressed into liquid as in Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG). Not any mere material can hold that force of a compressed gas within it. The gas is still flammable when it is let out of the container but it’s not as powerful as the compressed gas. Power restrained is power displayed.

When Mary hosted God in her womb, she was not ordinary. She was a conduit of God’s power which was shown in how she conducted power to Elizabeth upon greeting. She was declared the highly favoured, she was protected and ministered to by angels, she received resources in the form of gifts, she was a vessel of praise and prophecies. This is same with anyone who hosts God in him, he ceases to be ordinary. The fullness of God lives in us, we are creatures who have the creator compressed in us with such great power. We hold treasure in earthen vessels.
