Don’t Underestimate Light

2–3 minutes

“And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”John 1:5 NKJV

As was seen in the creation story of Genesis 1:1-2, light was and is the only antidote to darkness. The dimensions of evil were revealed in the beginning; darkness, formless, and emptiness. God, out of His infinite wisdom, began creation by first calling forth light. Every other thing can be dealt with when there is light. The light of God is His life, wisdom, power, and will, in fact, it is the revelation of the glory of God in all its dimensions.
When light shows up, darkness is already defeated; there’s nothing like a struggle between light and darkness. Both cannot coexist, not to even talk about struggling with each other. Light does not worry itself about how long darkness has been present or how deep darkness is. When light comes, any kind of darkness leaves the room, even if it has lasted for centuries.
In John 1:12-14, we understand that the light of God is Jesus Christ. He is who was in the beginning before creation began and still defeats any darkness in man’s life and in the world. No matter how long you have stayed in darkness or how deep you think you have descended into darkness, when Jesus comes, light overcomes. Jesus is the antidote for that darkness of a sinful life, that formlessness of a diseased body or situation, and that emptiness of emotional trauma and irrelevance.
I highly beseech you to open up yourself to the light of God and He will make you as He did in the creation of the world. He has the record that whatever He makes, He call good, and your life will be no different.

Reflection

Darkness may appear powerful because of how long it has remained, but its strength is only temporary. The moment light appears, darkness loses its hold. In the same way, no condition of the human life is beyond the reach of Christ. The light of Jesus brings clarity where there is confusion, healing where there is brokenness, and purpose where there is emptiness.

The question is not whether the light has power, but whether we are willing to receive it. When we open our hearts to Christ, the same God who spoke light into the beginning of creation begins a new work within us. He replaces disorder with purpose, emptiness with life, and darkness with His glory.

Prayer

Lord, You are the Light that overcomes every darkness. I ask that Your light shine into every part of my life. Where there is confusion, bring clarity. Where there is brokenness, bring restoration. Where there is emptiness, fill me with Your presence. Help me to walk daily in the light of Christ and reflect that light to others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
