||Rhema for the Week||
“For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, he fell asleep and was laid with his fathers and saw corruption. ” – Acts 13:36
The passage gives account of Paul’s maiden missionary journey and how David fulfilled God’s purpose before his death. Ultimately, the chapter reminds us of the efficacy of the gospel – Jesus Christ in breaking barriers and reaching people from all backgrounds.
God’s purpose for David preceded his death. Despite David’s past (e.g., murderer, adulterer), God still chose him to fulfil his purpose for a generation.
Like David, God determines the length of our days, and His purpose for our lives has a jurisdiction – our generation. Despite David’s pedigree, (a king, a man after God’s heart), after fulfilling God’s purpose, he fell asleep (died) and saw corruption (physical body decayed).
Often, our past has a way of clouding our future but Acts 13 admonishes us that: 1) what God has saved us FOR (His purpose) outweighs what he has saved us FROM (sin), 2) God’s Grace can reach the little, the less and the least, and 3) God is a promise keeper, thus we should continually surrender our lives to Him to use us to fulfill His purposes for our generation before he calls us home.
Brethren, you are not too late to be used by God; He specializes in giving people a fresh start. He did for Saul and David, likewise, he can for you if you surrender to him. A life that matters is a life devoted to fulfilling God’s purposes and remaining a generational blessing. Is this your life yet?
