The Fulfilled Prophecy of the New Law

Salvation 2025 | Day 4

“But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”
Jeremiah‬ ‭31‬:‭33‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The issue with the law of the Old Covenant is that it was given to sinful men who were predisposed to sin. The best of a sinful man cannot obtain the full requirement of the law because out of the heart proceeds all wickedness and evil (Mark 7:20-23). There needed to be an inward transformation to enable man to be right before God. 

Through Jeremiah, God spoke of the days to come when He will write His law on the hearts of men so that no one will need to tell another to do what’s right, but rather righteousness will spring forth from the renewed heart. It is this complete transformation that Jesus referred to as being born again, where a man’s heart and nature are changed to live for God. One is not a sinner because he sinned, but one sins because he is a sinner. The problem of sin is only dealt with when the seed of sin in man is exchanged for the seed of righteousness. Jesus simplified this by urging the Pharisees to clean the inside of the cup if they want the outside to remain clean. “Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also” (Matthew 23:26). The fruits we produce in our actions are the results of the kind of seed inside our hearts.

The born-again Christian has the law of God written on his heart in the New Covenant, and it’s at the forefront of his mind. This law is also referred to as the Law of the Spirit, and the Christian with this law on his heart can live godly by the enabling of the Spirit.
