The Fulfilled Prophecy of the Resurrection

1–2 minutes

Salvation 2025 | Day 5

“For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.”
Psalms‬ ‭16‬:‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

In the first sermon of Apostle Peter on the day of Pentecost, he referred to this Psalm as a Messianic prophecy. It is obvious that the Psalmist did not speak of himself in this part of the psalm because he, David, is dead and his body saw corruption. Jesus fulfilled this prophecy by His resurrection from the dead —His body saw no corruption in the grave.

The resurrection of Jesus from the dead stands as the unique declaration of supremacy over all, even death. By His resurrection, we see the display of His power and faithfulness. The miracle of resurrection is far superior to being raised from the dead. The latter requires another living human agent to call forth the dead, like in the case of Lazarus. Resurrection, however,  is one laying down His life and picking it up again; it requires no assistance from another human. As Jesus Himself described, “No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father” (John 10:18).

If He could resurrect amongst the many things He said, then our hope is founded on a solid rock that He can do any other thing.

Through Jesus’ resurrection, we who were dead in sin were also resurrected. You need not remain helpless in the grave and deeds of sin; surrender to Jesus now, and He will raise you from the dead and translate you to live eternally for Him (Romans 6:5-8).
